Talbot Lotus Sunbeam (Works Spec)

Back in the early 1980's, the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam was perhaps the fastest hot hatch on the road.  Fitted with the Lotus 911 engine, twin Dellorto DHLA 45's it produced 150bhp.  When put together to the original 'works spec' its thought that it would produce in the region of 245 bhp, and was a formidable rally car too.

So where to start with a brief of the tuning done on this thoroughbred rally car.  Firstly, it is a genuine Talbot Lotus Sunbeam, however when done to the Works Spec it had many modifications including twin 48 DHLA's instead of the road going 45 DHLA Dellorto's.   Ignition coil swapped out for a high power coil suited to the electronic ignition in place, Ignition timing was set correctly at idle, and checked at numerous positions within it's mechanical advance curve.

Likewise for fuelling through from idle, into the mid/upper rpm range.  Fuel float bowl levels set uniquely for the slight decent angle of the Lotus intake, jets checked, cleaned ultrasonically and physically, idle air balanced and rpm activation balanced also, together with one or two tweaks here and there.........back to it's former best.
