Triumph Dolomite Sprint (Ex Works) - Tuning

Back in the day the Triumph Dolomite Sprint was a very much under-rated car.   To put it into perspective the quoted performance figures for the Dolomite Sprint were disputed to be between 127 ~ 135bhp (122lb ft), and capable of 0-60 mph within 8.5 seconds which is very comparable to an RS2000 of the same era 109bhp (119 lb ft).  So quite a nippy car for the day.

The example here is actual ex-works rally car, currently running  standard Dolomite Sprint engine which the works engine is being refreshed.  Hence everything was health checked and tuned in accordance with standard spec and a little additional sympathy for today's modern fuel.

Triumph Dolomite Sprint - AG Classic Car Tuning

Carburettors were checked set and tuned accordingly, on choke/fast idle, normal idle and through the rpm range

Ignition points were gapped and dwell angle checked.

Ignition coil was health checked and swapped out for the correct Ballast Sports coils

Ignition timing was was set dynamically at idle, low throttle, mid, and mid/upper

Fuel lines swapped to E85 compatible, plus a modern high flow fuel filter (not the grubby one pictured).

Battery voltage tested static, and dynamic.

Spark plugs removed, cleaned and re-gapped.

Bores visually inspected by borescope.

.....and lots of other tests too!

Result is an engine running well with all key fundamentals checked, adjusted where necessary and ready for the owner to enjoy.
